Supersonic jet penetration /up to Mach 4/ into a Mach 2 airstream

Abstract: The effect of injection Mach number on jet penetration was determined from concentration measurements. Helium was injected transversely to the free stream from a flat plate at injection Mach numbers of 1, 2.4, 2.7, 3.5, and 4.0 and various total pressures. Jet penetration was found to increase with injection Mach number, the penetration dependence on Mach number increasing with downstream distance.
