Supplementation with Resveratrol, Piperine and Alpha-Tocopherol Decreases Chronic Inflammation in a Cluster of Older Adults with Metabolic Syndrome

Abstract: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is increasing worldwide regardless of culture, genetic, gender, and geographic differences. While multiple individual risk factors, such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia, can cause cardiovascular disease (CVD), it is the intercurrence of these risk factors that defines MetS as a cluster that creates an environment for atherosclerosis and other manifestations of CVD. Despite the advances in the knowledge and management of each of the components of MetS, there are … Show more

“…Our study reported only 2% of obese mothers suffered from early neonatal death (END). Mitanchez and Pascale, agreed with our study that Maternal obesity alone increased the risks for adverse neonatal outcomes, including macrosomia, perinatal mortality, induced preterm birth and birth defects [28].…”

“…Since both the oxidative stress and inflammation plays important role in the pathophysiology of MetS (46), the negative relationship between dietary vitamin E level and MetS may be mainly attributed to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory property of vitamin E (12,47,48). Consistently, the clinical trial evidence demonstrates that the vitamin E supplementation may ameliorate MetS via anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress (49,50). Moreover, some experimental animal studies have also indicated the beneficial impact of vitamin E intake on the MetS-related context (13)(14)(15)(16).…”

“…In a recent clinical trial, older adults (13 males and 9 females) diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and on concurrent therapeutics to treat their conditions were provided with supplements containing RES + PIP + α-tocopherol (FRAMINTROL ® ) [ 37 ]. Over the course of three months, the subjects were evaluated for the inflammatory state by tracking C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory marker, ferritin in plasma, and oxygen consumption and chemiluminescence in neutrophils.…”
