Suppression of Line Voltage Related Distortion in Current Controlled Grid Connected Inverters

Abstract: Abstract-The influence of selected control strategies on the level of low-order current harmonic distortion generated by an inverter connected to a distorted grid is investigated through a combination of theoretical and experimental studies. A detailed theoretical analysis, based on the concept of harmonic impedance, establishes the suitability of inductor current feedback versus output current feedback with respect to inverter power quality. Experimental results, obtained from a purpose-built 500-W, three-lev… Show more

“…The method based on the concept of harmonic impedance, which is to incorporate the grid voltage harmonics in the control loop through an additional feedforward path could also suppress the effects of the unwanted harmonics, would not affect the phase margin. However, the compensation accuracy of this approach is not satisfactory [32]. Fig.…”

“…According to Fig. 6(b), the open-loop transfer function of the PVR-based AD is given by 32 , From (10), it shows that there is no unstable open-loop poles, i.e., P=0. If the PI current controller is used, by using the parameters in Table I, the bode plots of the open-loop transfer function Gopen(s) with AD method when Rd,eq is 0, 8 and 26 is illustrated in Fig.…”

“…To increase the damping term in (1) without additional energy loss, an effective resistance emulation method, so-called active damping control, was introduced in [24,25,[28][29][30]. Figure 2a shows the resonance damping method utilizing capacitor current feedback.…”

“…The larger the value of o Z , the stronger the rejection of grid voltage disturbances [10] [26]. Hence, if the output impedance is high enough in the whole frequency range, the power quality will be much more improved in terms of harmonic distortion.…”
