“…The findings presented in this paper are in apparent conflict with the observations on lower suppressor function in psoriasis patients reported by Sauder et al [1980] and Hunyadi et al [1980], However, their results and our results are not comparable because neither Sauder et al nor Hunyadi et al studied the immunoglobulin production in vitro or the proportion of TK and Tm cells. Furthermore, it is doubtful whether the data presented by Sauder et al really in dicate lower suppression of lymphocytes in psoriasis.…”

“…In a study on patients with psoriatic arthritis a depressed mitogen (PHA, ConA, PWM) response of peripheral blood lymphocytes could also be demon strated [Espinoza et al, 1980]. On the other hand, two reports on suppressor cell function in psoriasis have recently been published showing a significantly diminished suppres sor activity [Hunyadi et al, 1980;Sauder et al, 1980]. In view of these somewhat contradictory results we thought it of interest to examine in psoriasis patients lymphocyte subpopula tions (Tk and Tm cells) as well as the PWM-induced immunoglobulin synthesis in vitro.…”

“…Sauder et al [10] described a significant decrease in suppressor activity in psoriasis patients compared with normal individuals, and such lack of suppression of the humoral immune system could lead to autoantibody production against skin antigens. Grunwald et al [9] sug gested that the concurrence of psoriasis and pemphigus might be basi cally a result of immunological reactions not necessarily connected with the antipsoriatic treatment.…”

“…The total number of T lymphocytes has been found to be decreased [15], with a return to normal levels with treatment (16). Other authors have suggested impairment in the function of T suppressor cells [17] and/or an imbalance in the OKT4/OKT8 ratio 118]. A study on T cell subpopulations in the blood and skin of patients with psoriasis provided further evidence for participation of T cells in the pathogenic process of t he dis ease 119], Still more recently, a decrease in the OKT4/ OKT8 ratio, chiefly due to a decrease in T helpers and an increase in T suppressors, was demonstrated in psoriatic patients [20], This immunologic disturbance showed a tendency to normalization following treatment with cer tain immunomodulators in addition to the antipsoriatic therapy.…”
