Supra Choroidal Buckling in Managing Myopic Vitreoretinal Interface Disorders

Abstract: The indentation effect achieved by supra choroidal approach can be used as a method of managing myopic foveoschisis and myopic macular hole with detachment even in eyes with failed primary vitrectomy, counteracting the role of posterior staphyloma in the role of the disease. The indentation effect is sufficient for first year of follow-up.

“…Another approach, extramacular buckling, attempts to provide support to the staphyloma that may be causing a posterior force, stretching the retina 19 20. Suprachoroidal support of the staphyloma has also been reported as a technique for treating this condition 21. Few studies have been able to compare methods,19 and extramacular buckling is not widely practiced.…”

“…Different techniques have been used together with modern vitrectomy techniques [50][51][52]. Pars plana vitrectomy is useful for removing two of the main tractions that cause myopic traction maculopathy: vitreous traction and an abnormally rigid ILM.…”

“…Since the introduction of three-port PPV with gas tamponade in the 90s [11, 12], several surgical strategies have been developed for the MH repair in high myopic eyes, including silicone oil tamponade, episcleral posterior buckling, suprachoroidal buckling, and scleral shortening technique [5255].…”
