“…The appearance of band at 2,860 cm -1 was due to the C-H bond of the organic compounds (Maensiri et al 2006). The weak band at 2,833 cm -1 could be ascribed to the characteristic frequencies of residual organic species, which was not completely removed by ethanol and distilled water washing (Guo et al 2007;Wang et al 2007). The two prominent absorption bands at 3,400 and 1,633 cm -1 in the materials can be recognized as the stretching and bending vibrations of water molecules.…”

“…Figure shows the FTIR spectra of the TiO 2 ‐ g ‐PMMA nanoparticles prepared via the radical grafting polymerization in DMSO at 90°C for 16 h with various CuSO 4 ·5H 2 O:TiO 2 ‐NH 2 :MMA:DMSO ratios. The peaks at 400 ∼ 800 cm −1 are attributed to TiO 2 and silane coupling agents, and the peak at 1720 ∼ 1730 cm −1 is definitely associated with stretching vibration of carbonyl groups of PMMA chains, and the peaks at 2940 ∼ 3000 cm −1 are ascribed to saturated CH . Obviously, the absorption peaks associated with PMMA chains became strongest only when the TiO 2 ‐ g ‐PMMA nanoparticles were prepared using a CuSO 4 ·5H 2 O:TiO 2 ‐NH 2 :MMA:DMSO ratio of 0.0075:2.0:2.0: 10.0.…”

“…Alternatively, Tsubokawa fixed a trichloroacetyl monolayer first, and executed Mo(CO) 6 /Mn 2 (CO) 10 ‐catalyzed redox‐initiated radical polymerizations of MMA, obtaining TiO 2 ‐ g ‐PMMA hybrid nanoparticles . Owing to photocatalytic ability of TiO 2 , photo‐induced surface‐initiated radical polymerization of MMA was simply performed by doping TiO 2 with a small amount of carbon or CuO, although initiation mechanism had yet to be clarified .…”

“…In spite of the versatility of the material, the question remains open concerning how to introduce chemical and biochemical functionalities to the TiO 2 surface in a defined manner to meet the desire for divergent and specific surface functionalization . To date, different strategies have been developed to tailor the surface functionality of TiO 2 , i.e., physical adsorption, chemically anchoring small molecule or polymer chains onto the surface of the material . Among all the surface modification approaches, polymer brushes are probably the most efficient way in governing the interaction between the substrate and the environment .…”

“…Woisel used well‐defined dopamine end‐functionalized polymers to functionalize titanium by “grafting‐onto” method . However, in most of the reported procedures, an intermediate layer, e.g., self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) on TiO 2 is required so that the following surface‐initiated polymerization (SIP) can be conducted to form polymer layers with controlled functionality, thickness, and density with precision …”
