Surface modification of plasma spraying Al2O3–13 wt% TiO2 coating by laser remelting technique

Abstract: An Al2O3-13 wt.% TiO2 composite ceramic coating was prepared on the TiAl alloy surface by plasma spraying and laser remelting combined technique. The morphology, microstructure, and phase composition of the prepared coating were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, energy disperse spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The bonding strength, microhardness, wear resistance, erosion resistance, and thermal shock resistance of the coating were also tested. Results demonstrated that after processing by laser rem… Show more

“…Today, it is difficult to name industries where gas-flame spraying [5], electric arc metallization [6], plasma [7], and detonation [8] coating spraying could not be successfully used. One of the traditional applications of thermal spraying is aerospace and aviation, in which heat-protective, heat-, corrosion-, and wear-resistant coatings are widely used, with hundreds of different types in the nomenclature [9].…”

“…K2 also contains Ti, which can form TiO 2 on the surface in case of wear. It has the effect of friction reduction and wear resistance [21][22][23][24][25] to prevent further damage to the friction layer, which makes K2 have good wear resistance.…”

“…Thermal spraying preparation options include electroplating, laser cladding, flame spraying, etc. [2225], cold spraying method does not need to melt the coating material at high temperature, and directly uses high-speed air to hit the material to be sprayed on the substrate to obtain a uniform and dense coating [2629]. The bonding method is a suitable approach for creating solid lubricating coatings on CFRP-based substrates.…”
