Surface Sizing Treated MWCNTs and Its Effect on the Wettability, Interfacial Interaction and Flexural Properties of MWCNT/Epoxy Nanocomposites

Abstract: A surface-sizing technique was offered to take full advantage of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and epoxy resins. Two surface-sizing treated MWCNTs were obtained through a ball-milling treatment of amino-functionalized MWCNTs (MWCNT-NH2) with n-butyl glycidylether (BuGE) and benzyl glycidylether (BeGE). These were referred to as MWCNT-BuGE and MWCNT-BeGE. The results indicated that the surface sizing effectively enhanced wettability, dispersibility of MWCNTs in the epoxy resin. These ameliorating effec… Show more

“…The deconvulated high-resolution N 1s spectra of NFCNFs in Figure 3(B) shows the main peak at 399.9 eV along with two other peaks at 398.5 and 401.5 eV for C─NH 2 , C─N─C, and N─C═O, respectively. [44,45] The C 1s high-resolution spectra of AFCNFs in Figure 3(C) shows the presence of C─C/C═C at 284.6 eV along with the peaks at higher binding energies of 285.8, 288.8, and 290.2 eV, corresponding to the formation of C─OH, C═O, and O═C─OH functionalities, respectively. Figure 3(D) shows the C 1s of NFCNFs where the main peak for C─C bond is at 284.6 eV along with two other peaks at 285.5 and 287.8 eV, which confirms the formation of C─N and N─C═O bonds, respectively.…”

“…The interaction and properties of composites of organic polymers with nanotubes are successfully investigated by methods of computer simulation [15][16][17][18][19]. In addition, the interaction of nitrogen-containing molecules (1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethylene, hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-s-triazine, octahydro-1,3,5,7tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine, 3,3΄-azo-bis(6amino-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, 3,6-diazido-1,2,4,5tetrazine etc.)…”
