Introduction: Tonsils are the body's defense against viruses or bacterial antigens that enter the tonsils. These pathogens can cause inflammation and formed focal infection. Either persistent or recurrent infection of the palatine tonsils occurs in chronic tonsillitis. Tonsillectomy is surgical procedure that removed the entire palatine tonsils. It is performed if conservative and medical management failed to relieve symptoms and if indicated by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) consensus published 1995.Case description: A 30 years old male, complained a lump in his throat for about a year and had worsened for the previous 1.5 months. The patient also had difficulty in breathing, especially during sleep and snored. The patient had received treatment and got better. However, some complaints such as fever, cough, runny nose, difficulty and painful swallowing appear more than three times a year. The patient was alert, vital signs and general examination are within normal limits. Throat examination revealed T2 - T3 tonsils, hyperemic + / +, dilated crypts + / +, detritus - / -, midline uvula with hyperemic mucosa. The patient was diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis and undergone Tonsillectomy.Conclusion: Tonsillectomy is indicated in patients with enlarged tonsils that cause upper airway obstruction and recurrent episode of tonsil infections more than three times per year despite adequate medical therapy.

Tonsillitis is a disease that is often experienced by a person, especially often occurs in children. Based on a survey from the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2012, the incidence of tonsillitis in Indonesia reached around 23%. Acute tonsillitis that is not properly treated can cause chronic tonsillitis, therefore it is important to know the characteristics of tonsillitis symptoms in order not to develop into chronic tonsillitis. Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils caused by infection with the Streptococcus group of bacteria or viruses which can be acute or chronic. Symptoms that often appear in tonsillitis are sore throat, difficulty swallowing and when it reaches chronic it can block the respiratory tract. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of tonsillitis patients in children aged 5-12 years at Rspba Bandar Lampung in 2020. The research method in this study was cross-sectional. It is known that the results of the study of tonsillitis patients in children, the most common symptom of which was pain during swallowing (40.5%), tonsillitis patients in children were often found in T2-T2 sizes (37.8%), tonsillitis patients in children were often experienced. by men (71.1%). tonsillitis patients in children are often experienced by ages 7-8 years (48.6%), the incidence of tonsillitis cases is 8.34%, the prevalence of tonsillitis cases in children aged 5-12 years is 41.1%, in children aged 5 -12 years have a lot of chronic tonsillitis. The characteristics found in tonsillitis patients aged 5-12 years, namely swallowing pain, widening of the T2-T2 tonsil size, mostly experienced by men and often occurs at 7-8 years of age, the incidence is 8.34%, prevalence in children. age 5-12 years as much as 41.1% and many children have chronic tonsillitis.

The most throat health problem is inflammation. Around 80% of sore throat are caused by viruses and only 10-20% are caused by bacteria. The types of inflammation found on the throat are tonsillitis and pharyngitis. This study aimed to obtain data of throat health among students of SMA Negeri 9 (Senior High School) Manado. This was a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional design. Respondents were 10th grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Manado. The results showed that most respondents had normal tonsil and pharynx. Conclusion: Most students of SMA Negeri 9 Manado had good throat health status. Keywords: throat health status, tonsil examination, pharynx examination Abstrak: Masalah kesehatan pada tenggorok yang terbanyak ditemukan ialah peradangan. Sekitar 80% radang tenggorok disebabkan oleh virus dan hanya 10-20% disebabkan oleh bakteri. Peradangan yang sering ditemukan pada tenggorok ialah tonsilitis dan faringitis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran kesehatan tenggorok pada siswa-siswi Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Negeri 9 Manado. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif observasional dengan desain potong lintang. Responden ialah siswa-siswi kelas X.4 Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Negeri 9 Manado. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa umumnya responden mempunyai tonsil dan faring yang normal. Simpulan: Umumnya gambaran kesehatan tenggorok pada siswa-siswi Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Negeri 9 Manado baik.Kata kunci: kesehatan tenggorok, pemeriksaan tonsil, pemeriksaan faring
