Survey on WSN Routing Protocols

Abstract: Recent advances in wireless sensor networks (WSN) over the last two decades has an more interest in the potential use in applications like combat field, security surveillance, border protection, disaster management. Moreover, researchers have termed the 21st century as the "Sensor Decade" Sensor nodes are remotely deployed in large numbers and expected to operate autonomously in harsh environments [3]. Now-a-days routing protocols are acting as designed, where essential designing issue is energy. In this paper… Show more

“…Perkins and Bhagwat proposed a relatively new proactive routing protocol based on the classical Bellman-ford algorithm [19] that was specified by RIP [20] [21]. Nodes in the network maintain a routing table of its neighbors and frequently send it to its neighbors [22] [23].…”

“…DTN copes with such a challenging environment by employing a "store and forward" approach, where data incrementally moved and stored throughout the network in hopes that it will eventually reach its destination. In DTN, a new layer introduced named 'Bundle layer' in the architecture, it is located between the transport layer and application layer used for store and forward messages [69]. However, in case of a lack of routes to the destination, a message is stored and carried until a new route becomes available.…”

“…All network routers keep an updated version of the LSDB database. It is mostly used to illustrate the topology of the autonomous system (AS) [7]. Nodes communicate their routing information using link state advertisement (LSA).…”
