Survival Rate and Prognostic Factors among Iranian Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract: Background: Survival time is one of the indicators used for evaluation of the quality of care in different types of malignancies, including breast cancer. The present study aimed to estimate the survival rate of breast cancer and its related factors among Iranian patients. Methods: Overall, 3148 cases of breast cancer who referred to the Cancer Research Center in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran during 1994-2017 participated in this longitudinal study. Survival estimates were calcul… Show more

“…The negative association between the clinical stage and survival rates was largely documented by many authors. 34 , 39 , 44 , 47 , 49 , 51 Our findings regarding 5-year OS rates per stage were to some extent comparable to data from developing countries, 34 , 49 but poorer than that from developed countries. 13 , 14 , 16 Interestingly, in our study, women with stage I had poorer survival compared to those with stage II, taking into account the small number—only seven patients—of cases diagnosed with stage I in the current study.…”

“…34 , 42 , 44 , 52 Many authors have documented the relation of OS and histologic grade of tumor. 39 , 44 , 51 , 56 In this study, there was an obvious trend toward better survival for patients with well-differentiated tumors.…”

“…It is estimated about 2550 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men in 2018 and a man's lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 1000 [2, 5–7]. The breast cancer incidence was reported in 7582 cases (23% of total cancers in women) in 2009 in Iranian women [8].…”
