Climatic conditions continue to change, can be seen from various parameters such as rainfall, rainy days, wind speed and solar irradiation. Theoretically, it has an impact on the productivity and welfare of rice farmers and also poses a risk to production and directly or indirectly impacts the finances of rice farmers. The aims of this study were to analyze whether there are differences in rice farming productivity under different climatic conditions. Then to analyze the financial risk on farming rice due the climate change. The research location is in Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency, Sumatra Utara Province. We involved 50 farmers as samples and three experts and experienced farmers in risk analysis. Analysis of productivity differences was carried out using the paired sample t-test method with the SPSS 26 tool. While risk analysis is carried out using failure mode effect analysis with Risk Priority Number calculation techniques. The results found that there were significant differences in rice farming productivity during planting periods with different climates. There are 22 financial risks that have the potential to occur in the rice farming process, from land preparation to harvesting stage. The highest level of risk is at the maintenance stage.

Rainfed paddy fields have a great potential to be developed in Indonesia, especially in Central Java. However, water irrigation management, drought stress, pest and disease infestation and low nutrients that affect paddy yield remain the constraints. Unpredictable climate pattern is also a limiting factor in the cultivation of rainfed paddy fields. This narrative review aims to identify and discuss solutions to problems that exist to increase the yield of rainfed paddy fields with several techniques that support sustainable agriculture. This review paper was prepared by collecting government data and interviews with several farmer group leaders as complementary data. Based on field conditions, farmers in rainfed paddy fields provide fertilization inputs that are not following the fertilizer recommendations. Moreover, field conditions with limited water availability have caused paddy cultivating in several locations only once a year with low yields. Water storage can help farmers meet the need for water, especially during dry and water-stress conditions. The farmers also need to pay attention to the appropriate fertilization doses and the use of additional organic matter derived from cultivation residues, which are expected to increase the availability of nutrients in the soil. The use of short-life and drought-resistant varieties can aid in overcoming the problem of crop failure in the middle phase caused by water scarcity. Finally, we identify and emphasize that rainfed paddy fields generally have a limiting factor for water and nutrients and several technologies are needed to contribute to increasing more sustainable paddy yields.

The income of farmers in Indonesia is still relatively low even to support their families. In the current economic conditions, farmers play a role as parents who must meet the needs of the family and form a national character in their children. This study aims to identify the strategies used by farmers to maintain survival and the formation of national character in children. This study uses a qualitative method. Informants in this study are farmers who cultivate limited land. Informants were selected based on purposive sampling method. This research was conducted in Rejosari, Karangawen, Demak. The results showed that the survival strategy of farmers in meeting family needs was divided into two, the first was farmers who carried out agricultural activities, while the second activity was carried out in agriculture. Farmers' strategies in shaping the values of the nation's character to children are carried out by instilling religious, responsible, creative and disciplined characters. This research is useful for the Government, especially the Ministry of Agriculture to make policies in the form of capital assistance, seeds, fertilizers and medicines to farmers so that farmers can increase their income and can shape the character of the nation.
