Sustainability Formation of Machine Cells in Group Technology Systems Using Modified Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Abstract: Abstract:The efficiency and sustainability of a cellular manufacturing system (CMS) in batch type manufacturing is highly valued. This is done using a systematic method of equipment into machine cells, and components into part families, based on the suitable similar criteria. The present work discusses the cell formation problem, with the objective of minimizing the cumulative cell load variation and cumulative intercellular moves. The quantity of parts, operation sequences, processing time, capacity of machin… Show more

“…The job sequence, part volume, inter-cell movement cost, job production cost, and the alternative process plans were [4] used in the proposed similarity coefficient-based heuristic method for CM. The cell formation [5] was done, and also achieved the minimisation of the cumulative cell load variation and cumulative inter-cellular moves. The number of parts, operation sequences, processing time, the capacity of machines, and workload of the machinery were considered as parameters.…”

“…It commenced with the definition of a normalized decision matrix (using Equation (6)) as evident in Table 10. Subsequently, the best values (v j + ) in the normalized decision matrix were determined by employing Equations (7) and (8). The result for each criterion is shown in Table 11.…”

“…Several advantages, such as high responsiveness, enhanced flexibility, higher productivity, reduced labor requirements, and work-in-process, etc., are associated with RMSs. Similarly, the CMS involves the implementation of group technology (GT) for the generation of production cells within which many part families can be produced [6,7]. Despite its numerous benefits, CMS is quite inflexible in meeting the variable part designs and quantities, as well as individual cells, becoming ineffective when new parts are entered into the part family.…”
