Sustainability of Batik wastewater quality management strategies: analytical hierarchy process

Abstract: Batik industries have some positive impact on economic growth and socio-cultural development. However, they also produce wastewater in large quantities with high pH, containing biochemical oxygen demand, containing chemical oxygen demand and also have a substance of total suspended solid that do not meet quality standards and also could have negative impacts on the environment. Paoman village, Indramayu regency, is one of the batik small industries supporting economic and socio-cultural development in local co… Show more

“…These limitations in terms of knowledge, thus, often relate to ecological aspects of sustainability practices, such as reducing pollution and opting for safer raw materials. A lack of sustainability awareness is also caused by limited information obtained by entrepreneurs about the ecological, social, and economic benefits and risks of becoming more sustainable [39][40][41][42]. There is also a lack of awareness related to the socio-cultural aspects of sustainability, as entrepreneurs are often unsuccessful in integrating sustainability into their SMEs' cultures.…”

“…To conclude this literature review, the theoretical concepts used in this study point to the dimensions of barriers in the extant literature as knowledge, socio-cultural, and policies or regulations [35,36,[38][39][40][41]48]. In comparison, the dimensions of facilitators include ecological, socio-cultural, technological, and political factors [21][22][23]25,49].…”

“…During the production of hydrogen peroxide, the treatment of effluents that contain a large amount of inorganic and organic pollutants, such as ammonium salts, 2-ethylanthraquinone, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, and trioctyl phosphate, is challenging [2]. Traditional biological treatment does not meet the new local standards; chemical oxygen demand by dichromate (CODcr <60 mg/L, NH4-N <8.0 mg/L) for direct discharge [3]. Consequently, several biological processes, such as anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic (AAO), anaerobic-anoxic-aerobicaerobic (AAOO), and anaerobic-aerobic-anoxic-aerobic (AOAO), have emerged [4].…”
