At the time of implementation of this project (between 2005 and 2008) the promotion of industrial heritage tourism had gained popularity in a number of industrial areas in the European Union (Hospers, 2002), as industrial heritage tourism was seen as an effective means to preserve cultural heritage and save it from degradation for future generations (Szromek et al, 2021).
