Sustainable Energy for All 2015: Progress Toward Sustainable Energy

Abstract: The Steering Group's collaboration was made possible by agreement among the senior management of the member agencies. Anita George (World Bank) and Fatih Birol (IEA), with Rohit Khanna (ESMAP), oversaw the development of the Global Tracking Framework. The technical team was managed by Vivien Foster (World Bank) and Dan Dorner (IEA).Gabriela Elizondo Azuela (World Bank) coordinated inputs from multi-agency working groups and led the preparation of the report. The chapter on access to energy (chapter 2) was prepar… Show more

“…These are an important starting point for household, community and national level indicators for successful adoption, policy and coverage, promotion and uptake. The SE4All Global Tracking Framework offers another set of multi-tier measures focused on clean energy access (IEA 2015; see Annex pages 172–177). While sufficient empirical data to define adequate exposure reductions in most situations is still needed, the WHO IAQG and the published integrated exposure response (IER) curves (Burnett et al 2014) provide critical guidance today for household and community targets.…”

“…Most of the developed world, as well as the high-income populations in the developing world, have made the transition to cleaner fuels for cooking and other household energy needs (IEA 2015). While next generation solid fuel stoves may provide an important transitional technology with potential health benefits, this has yet to be demonstrated, and a recent study highlights the emission challenges these technologies face (Mutlu et al 2016).…”

“…The achievement of SDG 7 targets would also contribute positive synergies toward addressing gender equality across several SDGs, notably those addressing poverty (SDG 1), health and well-being (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), and climate change (SDG 13). Attaining these goals requires efficiency and sensitivity in all actions taken, to ensure that all elements of energy planning and policymaking mainstream gender dimensions and actively advance women's leadership (Energia 2018;Dutta et al 2017).…”

“…Many studies have projected future energy use, GHG emissions, and air pollutants for individual HKH countries (Amann et al 2008;Klimont et al 2009;IEA 2015;Mir et al 2016;Purohit et al 2010Purohit et al , 2013. However, none assess future energy use and GHG emissions in the HKH mountain region alone.…”
