Urban community development is a multifaceted challenge that demands innovative and sustainable solutions. This paper conducts a comprehensive review of the impact of non-profit organizations in facilitating urban community development, drawing comparisons between the contexts of the United States and various regions in Africa. With a focus on the role of non-profits, this study examines the strategies, challenges, and outcomes of community development initiatives in urban settings. The literature review provides an overview of urban community development and underscores the increasing importance of non-profit organizations as key contributors to positive change. The paper then delves into a comparative analysis of non-profit projects in urban areas, exploring both the similarities and distinctive factors influencing community development efforts in the USA and Africa. The methodology section details the research approach, emphasizing data collection from diverse sources, including academic literature, non-profit reports, and case studies. Through a qualitative analysis, the study identifies key themes, success factors, and challenges associated with non-profit engagement in urban community development. The main effect of an earthquake for an area is the loss that has an impact on social, economic and physical conditions. Based on earthquake data from the USGS, the earthquake that occurred in the North Sumatra area would have an impact on the surrounding area, especially in Deli Serdang Regency. Seen from the geological map, the Medan sheet shows that the Deli Serdang area is located in a fault zone. The purpose of this study is to identify earthquake-prone areas as a study in regional planning in Deli Serdang Regency with the target of this research being to provide benefits in policy making and readiness for earthquake risk in Deli Serdang Regency and this research will contribute to science in identifying areas that have the potential for earthquake disasters. The method in this study emphasizes data collection in the form of rock types, land slopes, seismic data in the form of soil acceleration in the bedrock and areas located in the fault zone. These parameters will be weighted and analyzed in order to obtain a model that represents field conditions. Analyzing the data using the overlay method so as to obtain the typology of earthquake-prone areas. The results of the analysis describe the typology of earthquake-prone areas consisting of areas with typology A with a stable classification of 10.45%, typology A with a less stable classification of 39.51%, typology B with a less stable classification of 43.89%, typology C with less stable classification was 4.89%, the area with typology D and unstable classification was 1.25% and the area with typology E classification unstable was 0.02%.

The geoenvironmental risk assessment approach is one of the important approaches that provides new city planners with an important tool to cope with emerging environmental problems, such as pollution, epidemics, climate change, and flood. However, few scholars have explored the assessment of soil risk at the local level, which is common in new cities in Egypt. Ignoring the problematic soil in urban planning would present future risks for residents, undermine the effect of proposed land uses, and waste resources in plan implementation. To solve these problems, this paper carries out a risk assessment of problematic soil for the urban planning of New East Port Said City, aiming to ensure the efficiency of future land uses and the sustainability of similar new cities. The types of soil in the new city were summarized, which include soft clay soil, sabkha soil and sand dunes. With the aid of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing, the factors leading to the geological risk of each type of soil were detected separately. Besides, the vulnerability of proposed land uses was evaluated, and the geo-hazards of problematic soil were mapped comprehensively. On this basis, the land use plan was optimized for the new city according to the soil risks, and the land uses affected by soil risks. The research results shed new light on the application of environmental risk assessment in urban planning, and promote the risk mitigation, and sustainability of new cities.
