Synchronicity of global construction cost indexes

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the features and tendency of cost indices in the global construction setting. Design/methodology/approach Data from 22 countries/regions are collected and analyzed using maximum variance formulation and Kendall rank correlation coefficient. Findings It is found that global construction cost indexes (CCIs) have commonly maintained a steady increase for decades, and the CCIs synchronize with each other. Overall synchronicity and synchronicity of different count… Show more

“…Econometric analyses predicting construction price indices have been proposed as a cost estimation method (Joukar & Nahmens, 2016;Rafiei and Adeli, 2018;Zhang et al, 2019;Mahdavian et al, 2021). While these methods may be useful to forecast commodity prices, they cannot be used to develop a generalized estimation methodology given the volatility of such indices.…”

“…Government policies, fluctuations in the political situation and differences in industry regulations and customs between countries will all significantly affect contractors' adaptability in the international market. Moreover, limited business opportunities and stiff competition make the international market more volatile and unpredictable, meaning the investments often perform poorly (Zhang et al. , 2019; Wuni and Shen, 2020).…”
