Synchronized Waveforms – A Frontier of Data-Based Power System and Apparatus Monitoring, Protection, and Control

Abstract: 1 -Voltage and current waveforms contain the most authentic and granular information on the behaviors of power systems. In recent years, it has become possible to synchronize waveform data measured from different locations. Thus largescale coordinated analyses of multiple waveforms over a wide area are within our reach. This development could unleash a set of new concepts, strategies, and tools for monitoring, protecting, and controlling power systems and apparatuses. This paper presents an in-depth review and… Show more

“…With the development of modern communication technology [21], current differential protection is basically unaffected by distance between stations [11,22]. Based on the dedicated communication channel or wide-area network channel, the exchange of current data with time stamp can be realized by the transmission protection devices at double terminals or multiple terminals [23], and the wide-area protection of long-distance transmission lines can be realized.…”

“…Once it keeps burning, there may be some serious consequences, even to be a power outage accident for transmission system in the worst case, which may go against the carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategies [3,4]. In the past years, some typical arc-related accidents have occurred in the power transmission system in China [5][6][7][8]. For example, an insulator string, which was paralleled with an arcing horn (Arcing horn, which is a widely used protecting device in high voltage DC transmission grounding lines, is a pair of rod-rod electrodes in parallel with insulator [9][10][11], as shown in figure 1), was burst and exploded.…”
