Synergistic effect of methyljasmonate and cyclodextrin on stilbene biosynthesis pathway gene expression and resveratrol production in Monastrell grapevine cell cultures

Abstract: Background: Plant cell cultures have been shown as feasible systems for the production of secondary metabolites, being the elicitation with biotic or abiotic stimuli the most efficient strategy to increase the production of those metabolites. Vitaceae phytoalexins constitute a group of molecules belonging to the stilbene family which are derivatives of the trans-resveratrol structure and are produced by plants and cell cultures as a response to biotic and abiotic stresses. The potential benefits of resveratrol… Show more

“…Our group determined that the elicitation treatments of cell suspensions V. vinifera cv.Gamay and cv. Monastrell with MBCD combined with MeJA led to major increases in t-R accumulation [22,58] because t-R was synthesised abundantly in treated cells and translocated continuously to the medium. However, treatment with MBCD+MeJA did not lead to the de novo synthesis of c-R, which was a minority metabolite compared to t-R. Figure 5 shows the amount of accumulated t-R in extracellular medium after 72 h of incubation with elicitors MBCD and MeJA, which were quantitatively determined by HPLC.…”

“…A passion flower has been reported as a symbol for Passion of Christ (Brindha et al 2012) and its attractive flower compromise of 100 petals that resemble as Kauravas, 5 stamens resemblance Pandavas, 3 stigmas as Brahma, Visnu and Shiva characters from historical Mahabharata in India (Lade 2015). These species usually grow in spiky trees as support and over the surface of alongside a road and lava flow, volcanic and limestone soils and is grown in waste land (Lijavetzky et al 2008). The minimum rainfall required for P. foetida is 900 mm.…”
