SYNTAX Score is associated with worse outcomes after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery for three-vessel or left main complex coronary disease

Abstract: SYNTAX Score was remarkably high among patients undergoing surgical off-pump myocardial revascularization at our institution. In this subset of patients, a higher SYNTAX Score was associated with a higher incidence of in-hospital and follow-up major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events after coronary artery bypass grafting, but not with early or late mortality.

“…The prognostic value of the SYNTAX score based on ICA has been well-established, with a high SYNTAX score independently predicting worse outcome after revascularization (PCI or CABG) [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. A recent randomized clinical trial reported that among patients with complex CAD (LM or 3-vessel disease), the low (0-22) SYNTAX score group showed no significantly different adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular event (MACCE) rates between treatment groups (CABG vs. PCI).…”

“…The examiners were unaware of the cognitive status of the patients. The severity of the coronary lesions was assessed using the findings of coronary angiography (Innova 3100; GE Medical Systems, Carrollton, TX, USA) and a SYNTAX Score calculator (http://www.syntaxscore.com/calculator/start.htm) [26]. Expert-class equipment was used to perform echocardiography and evaluations of the carotid artery stenosis (Vivid 7; GE Medical Systems).…”

“…Recently, some authors have used SYNTAX scores to predict major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events following coronary artery bypass grafting [10,11]. The clinical SYNTAX score (CSS) is a combination of age, ejection fraction, decrease in creatinine clearance and classic SYNTAX score.…”
