Synthesis and Application of Novel NiMoK/TS-1 for Selective Conversion of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters/Triglycerides to Olefins

Abstract: Methyl palmitate (or triglyceride) was converted into C 15 olefin with remarkable selectivity using nickel−molybdenum oxides on the mesoporous titanosilicate support. The olefin has one carbon atom less than the acid portion of the ester. A new catalyst NiMoK/TS-1 was synthesized in which the effect of acidity of supports and molybdenum loading on the decarboxylation conversion along with product selectivity was investigated in methyl palmitate conversion into C 15 olefin. The prepared catalysts were analyzed … Show more

“…Future research in this area should focus on developing robust, selective, inexpensive, recyclable, and eco-friendly catalysts that can handle a mixture of FAAs of diverse structural features (e.g., saturated, unsaturated) without extensive prior purification . FAEs and TGs have also been subjected to the CDC process forming long-chain alkenes . FAAs can be converted to alkenes by the CDN process.…”

“…Fatty acid esters are important fine chemical products, which are widely used in food, cosmetics, medicine, energy, chemical industry and other industrial fields 1,2) . Among them, short chain fatty acid esters are important sources of spices and bioplastics 3) , Medium chain fatty acid methyl esters are biodiesel with the advantages of high cetane number, low sulfur content, nontoxicity, and good lubricity 4) .…”

“…They obtained 56 % C7 alkanes and 40 % C7 alkenes. Sancheti [18] studied the deoxygenation of methyl palmitate diluted in n-hexane over a Ni5Mo10K/TS-1 (titanosilicate) catalyst at 380°C, obtaining 29% conversion and selectivity of 87% to C15 alkenes and 8% to C15 alkanes.…”
