Synthesis and Biological Studies of Benzo[b]furan Derivatives: A Review from 2011 to 2022

Lizeth Arce-Ramos,
Juan-Carlos Castillo,
Diana Becerra

Abstract: The importance of the benzo[b]furan motif becomes evident in the remarkable results of numerous biological investigations, establishing its potential as a robust therapeutic option. This review presents an overview of the synthesis of and exhaustive biological studies conducted on benzo[b]furan derivatives from 2011 to 2022, accentuating their exceptional promise as anticancer, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. Initially, the discussion focuses on chemical synthesis, molecular docking simulations, and both… Show more

“…This can be explained by the fact that the G1 phase is a phase that precedes DNA replication, in which the cellular conditions inuence cell cycle progression, causing DNA to either rebuild in a cell or initiate apoptosis, and several studies address the role of G0/G1 phase arrest in intensifying cellular apoptosis. 52 2.2.4. Modes of cell death in melanoma cells.…”

“…Heterocycles, especially nitrogen-containing compounds, have attracted considerable attention due to their wide spectrum and important biological uses in the fields of medicines, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and pharmaceuticals. Heterocycles furans and benzofuran [16], pyrazoles [17], thiophenes [18], oxadiazoles [19], 1,2,4-Amino-triazines [20], thiadiazoles [21], imidazoles benzimidazoles, triazoles, pyridines, pyrimidines, benzoxazoles, benzothiazoles [22,23], etc., constitute the integral part of most of the clinical drugs and ther-apeutics to treat various diseases such as antiviral, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-allergic, anti-diabetic, analgesic, anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, anti-tuberculosis, hemolytic, anti-convulsant, thrombolytic, anti-neurodegenerative, anti-leprosy, anti-tumor, antifungal, antipyretics, antihypertensive, dehydrogenase kinase inhibitor, herbicidal, etc. [16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23].…”

“…The major problem of antimicrobial resistance persists due to the appearance and widespread distribution of microbes, especially Gram‐positive bacteria [2–6] . The resistance problem can be addressed by the development of innovative agents with different modes of action to avoid cross‐resistance with current therapeutics [7] . Therefore, new classes of antibacterial agents with new mechanisms are critically needed to combat multidrug‐resistant infections.…”
