“…6a); with peaks at 578, 592, 612, 653 and 700 nm corresponding to the Eu 3+ transitions: 5 D 0  →  7 F j (j = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4). This correlates well with other lanthanide-POSS species described in the literature, where characteristic Eu 3+ emission is preserved in complex siloxane species and materials3236. Herein, however, broad underlying emission is also present and appears significantly enhanced after thermolytic treatment and production of nanoparticles (Fig.…”

“…Their preparation and interesting properties have been described in several comprehensive reviews in recent years2627282930 and they have been utilized as catalysts industrially227293031. RE metallasilsesquioxanes have great potential as precursors for new luminescent materials because siloxane ligands surrounding the RE metal centre can prevent the formation of RE-O-RE clusters that normally result in quenching by non-radiative recombination through energy dissipation and cross relaxation32. In addition, silsesquioxanes have structural similarities with silica (particle and bulk) materials, providing potential for synthesis of new silica based nanostructures33, and enabling the tailoring of surface structure34.…”

“…2Ac), the spectrum of Na-TbEuSAP presented the same bands, previously observed, along with additional peaks ascribed to the intra-4f 6 transitions of Eu 3+ ( 7 F 0,1 -5 H J , 5 D J , 5 L J and 5 G J ), with a l max at 395 nm ( 7 F 0 -5 L 6 ). [44][45][46][47] The presence of the Tb 3+ transitions in the spectrum of Na-TbEuSAP analysed at the emission line of Eu 3+ is a clear indication of the occurrence of a Tb 3+ / Eu 3+ metalto-metal energy transfer (MMET) process. [48][49][50][51] This hypothesis was conrmed by analysing the emission spectra at the solid state of Na-TbEuSAP under irradiation at l max of Eu 3+ (395 nm) and Tb 3+ (270 nm) ( Fig.…”

“…Indeed, the emission spectrum collected at 270 nm showed emission peaks of both Tb 3+ ( 5 D 4 -7 F J , J ¼ 6-3) 41-43 and Eu 3+ ( 5 D 0 -7 F J , J ¼ 0-4). [45][46][47][48][49] The Tb 3+ / Eu 3+ energy transfer photoenhanced the luminescence of europium, as indicated by the increased intensity of the 5 D 0 -7 F 2 emission band of Eu 3+ at 615 nm (compared to the same band obtained aer direct excitation at 395 nm) of ca. 90%.…”

“…The progenitor of the analyzed un-condensed form has three vicinal silanol groups [T7H 7 (OH) 3 ,F igure 2b]. To obtain the "metalla-silsesquioxane" (TM-POSS)aSi-H (or Si-R) unit can be replaced with aT M. [71,73] The TM-POSS model through its rigidity,g eometry and local electronic interactions is able to model with ag ood approximation as iliceous surface/bulk environments urrounding the TM [70] additionally allowing high level ab-initio methods to corroborate the DFT findings.…”
