Synthesis and Characterisation of Mesoporous TiO2 Nanoparticles by Novel Surfactant Assisted Sol-gel Method for the Degradation of Organic Compounds

Abstract: A sol-gel method was employed to synthesise pure titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and surfactant assisted TiO 2 nanoparticles (NPs).The effect of novel surfactant viz., Lauryl lactyl lactate on photocatalytic properties of TiO 2 was studied. TiO 2 NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance spectra (DRS), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), and… Show more

“…Prepared ZnO and Ag doped ZnO nanoparticles were taken for degradation of methylene blue (MB) using 120 W light for source of radiation. 5, 10, 15, and 20 mg of photocatalyst were added to 100 mL of various concentrations of MB solutions (5,10,15, and 20 ppm) in a HEBER photo reactor [25]. The solution was continuously mixed by passing air in dark for 30 min to confirm adsorption-desorption equilibrium between MB and photocatalyst before irradiation.…”

“…Such a solution is mixed with a second solution of ethanol and distilled water under vigorous stirring for 8 h up to the generation of the gel. The mixture is, then, aged, dried, ground and finally calcined, resulting in a final product with a specific surface area up to 40.10 m 2 /g, a pore volume 0.112 cm 3 /g [38].…”

“…B-TiO 2 NPs were synthesized by a simple modified sol-gel method as reported in our earlier work on white TiO 2 [22]. A solution composed of 4 mL of ethanol and 0.9 mL of double-distilled (DD) water was named as A.…”
