Synthesis and characterization of dextran-coated iron oxide nanoparticles

Abstract: Synthesis and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles coated with a large molar weight dextran for environmental applications are reported. The first experiments involved the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles which were coated with dextran at different concentrations. The synthesis was performed by a co-precipitation technique, while the coating of iron oxide nanoparticles was carried out in solution. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmissi… Show more

“…Figure 5 exhibit the XRD pattern of IONPs synthesized by sonochemical method. The peaks of IONPs with characteristic maximum intensity at 34.5° and 36.8° indicate the magnetite phase of iron oxide [61]. Similarly, a single major intensity peak was also observed by Predescu et al 2018, at 35.28° for magnetite in dextran coated magnetite nanoparticles.…”

“…The average particle size of the synthesized IONPs is 550 nm and the PDI value is 0.015 which is in good agreement with the size of the IONPs. Besides these two peaks, there is a third peak also at 63.8 • which could be due to the reflection of the magnetite phase [61]. The analyzed diffraction was matched with the standard XRD peaks of Fe 3 O 4 with JCPDS file no: 00-003-0863 and confirmed the formation of magnetite phases.…”

“…From the SEM micrographs, GpNPs, CbNPs and BpNPs nanoparticles were agglomerated due to presence of various biomolecules, chloride, and potassium compounds present in the leaf extracts which influence the morphology of the nanoparticles [14] and the gold used in sample preparation for SEM analysis [58]. Polyphenols present in the aqueous extracts of Conyza bonariensis, Bidens pilosa, and Galinsoga parviflora play a vital role as reducing agents and control the agglomeration of the nanoparticles through van der Waals interaction [48,59].…”
