Synthesis and characterization of La1-xSr xMnO3±δ powders obtained by the polymeric precursor route

Abstract: Polycrystalline strontium-doped lanthanum manganite (LSM) powders with 0.15, 0.22, and 0.30 mol % Sr were synthesized by the polymeric precursor route using a molar ratio of 3:1 citric acid and metal cations. The powders were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, high-temperature X-ray diffraction to determine the crystalline perovskite phase and crystallite sizes, scanning electron microscopy for the morphological analysis, nitrogen adsorption to determine the specific su… Show more

“…In the FT-IR spectrum of the product after calcination, showed the main absorption band around 606 cm −1 corresponding to stretching of the metal-oxygen bond in the perovskite, which involves the internal motion of a change in Mn-O-Mn bond length in MnO 6 octahedral structure [25]. The bands' positions are in good agreement with those reported in the literature [26]. FT-IR of three samples were very similar to one another.…”

“…The bands at 1,626 cm -1 can be assigned to the stretching vibrations of C-H bonds. 29 From these spectra we can confirm that the nanoparticles are coated with silica as already seen in TEM images.…”

“…This method, also called the Pechini method, allows the production of nanocrystalline powder samples at relatively low temperatures. This synthesis produces a polymer network starting from a polyhydroxy-alcohol and an alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid, with metallic cations homogeneously distributed throughout the matrix [29]. The catalytic behavior in the ethanol steam reforming for hydrogen production was investigated by evaluating the effect of reaction temperature and cobalt content.…”
