Synthesis and Characterization of Magnesium Hydroxide Using a Bubbling Setup

Abstract: Magnesium hydroxide [MH] with porous nanoplates were synthesized from boric magnesium fertilizer (MgSO4·7H2O), using a large bubbling setup designed by the authors. The regular hexagonal plates of MH with a smaller specific area were formed after hydrothermal treatment. The effects of various operating variables, including the ammonia flow rate, reaction temperature, magnesium source, particle sizes, and dispersion properties of the synthesis products were investigated. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron mic… Show more

“…In the SEM image, these platelets are clustered into a small primary agglomerate of around 3 µm in diameter. These agglomerates of hexagonal platelet crystals are consistent with similar images in Gregson et al 34 and Li et al 47 . are sometimes referred to as macro-aggregates and there is evidence in the literature 20,21 that these particles contain higher ratios of intra-aggregate fluid than smaller aggregates.…”

“…The product was obtained on both sides of the membrane, which indicates it fell randomly from the template. In accordance with relevant theories and experiments [25][26][27][28], the template may control the process of synthesis as follows. Metal ions (Mg 2? )…”

“…In view of the above problems, we developed ammonium-circulation method to prepare MH (Li et al, 2009(Li et al, , 2010Guo et al, 2013). The process contains two units, i.e., an ammonia-evaporation unit and a MH-precipitation (ammonia-absorption) unit (see Table 1).…”
