Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetic Nanocontainers

Abstract: Magnetic hollow spheres were synthesized through a two‐step process and were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, super quantum interference device, vibrating sample magnetometry and Mössbauer spectroscopy methods. First, polystyrene spheres (PS) were produced using emulsion polymerization. Second, the PS spheres were coated via the sol–gel method to form an iron oxide layer. The size of the PS spheres was controlled by the concentration of the monomer (styrene), … Show more

“…The shells used for the containers are created either by in-situ hydrolysis of the corresponding metallic salt in the presence of core materials [42][43][44][45][46][47] , or by calcination of polymer particles coated with uniform inorganic shells [48][49][50][51][52][53][54] . Recently, several nano-containers have been synthesized using a two-step process.…”

“…Furthermore, they have been of interest as fillers, coatings, capsule agents, etc., because of their lower density and optical properties 7–10 . Such “shells” are created either by hydrolysis, in situ, of the corresponding metallic salt in the presence of core materials 11–20 or calcinating polymer particles coated with uniform inorganic shells 21–32 . A very interesting topic is the production of “shells” that are constructed of corrosion inhibitor materials such as compositions of cerium and molybdenum oxides.…”

“…The synthesis of NCs consisted of two steps; in the first step the polymethacrylic methacrylate (PMMA) core was fabricated while during the second step the shell was created on the seed surface via emulsion polymerisation. The detailed synthetic procedure of hollow NCs has been previously presented (Efthimiadou et al, 2017;Tapeinos, 2014). Briefly, the PMMA core synthesis carried out by emulsion polymerisation, MMA (1.18 gr, 1 ml) was added into a 25 ml round flask filled with water (24 ml) and agitated under nitrogen atmosphere.…”
