Synthesis and Characterization of Nano Ag2O and Cu(OH)2 by Solution Reduction Method and Their Antibacterial Studies

Abstract: Silver oxide (Ag2O) and copper(II)hydroxide (Cu(OH)2) nanoparticles were synthesized through a simple solution reduction method using silver nitrate (AgNO3) and copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO4.5H2O) in the presence of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as reducing agent. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic (FT-IR) analysis, UV-absorption and photoluminescence (PL), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) studies were performed to confirm… Show more

“…23 The 0.1Cu, 0.5Cu and 0Cu coatings all showed similar XRD patterns, indicating that the addition of CuCl 2 did not cause the formation of detectable crystal structures. However, the diffraction peaks at 16.5, 22.0 and 34.1°(2θ) assigned to the (020), ( 021) and (002) planes of Cu(OH) 2 24 were found for 1Cu and 3Cu, confirming the presence of Cu 2+ in these networks.
