Synthesis and Characterization of Salinomycin-Loaded High-Density Lipoprotein and Its Effects on Cervical Cancer Cells and Cervical Cancer Stem Cells

Abstract: Background Cervical cancer stem cells (CCSCs), a small part of tumor population, are one of the important reasons for metastasis and recurrence of cervical cancer. Targeting CCSCs may be an effective way to eliminate tumors. Salinomycin (Sal) has been proved to be an effective anticancer drug in many studies, especially for cancer stem cells (CSCs). However, the cytotoxicity of salinomycin limits its further research as an anticancer drug. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) nanoparticles are an excell… Show more

“…Starting from the 1960s, a large number of new polymeric materials entered the pharmaceutical field, driving the development of sustained and controlled release dosage forms of drugs. In recent years, NPs have been designed for active delivery and release of drugs into cancer cells (Damke et al, 2020; Lammari et al, 2020; Mi et al, 2021; Yin et al, 2021). NPs has the characteristics of small particle size, non‐toxic, biodegradable, and has a high enough drug loading capacity to be able to locate in the target site.…”

“…S-HDL was synthesized with Sal, rhApoA-I, rhApoE, and lecithin, using the sodium cholate method, as we previously described. 25 Briefly, an ethanol solution (1 mL), containing 2.7 mg lecithin and 1 mg Sal, was rapidly injected into 6 mL of PBS (pH = 7.4). After adding N 2 , 0.75 mL PBS, containing 2.7 mg sodium cholate, 5 mg rhApoA- I and 2.5 mg rhApoE, was added to the lipid mixture by stirring.…”
