Synthesis and Crystal Structure of [Re2Br4(Te2)(TeBr)2(TeBr2)2], a Dinuclear Complex with Te22–, TeBr−, and TeBr2 Ligands

Abstract: The reaction of ReBr4, Te and TeBr4 in SiBr4 as solvent in a sealed glass ampoule at 150 °C yields black crystals of Re2Te6Br10. As the X‐ray crystal structure determination shows [monoclinic, P21, Z = 2, a = 1127.5(1), b = 861.85(9), c = 1231.0(2)pm, β = 105.47(9)°], the structure consists of discrete dinuclear complexes. A Re–Re dumb‐bell with d(Re–Re) = 279.9 pm is coordinated by a μ‐Te2 group and two μ‐TeBr groups. Additionally, each Re atom is coordinated to two terminal bromine atoms and a TeBr2 ligand l… Show more

“…The same ambiguity is present in the description of the coordination in cuboidal [Re 4 Te 4 Br 8 (TeBr 2 ) 4 ], where the choice is between the planar TeBr 4 2- ligand, coordinated in an “allylic”, η 3 fashion, and the neutral TeBr 2 molecule (Te−Br 2.51−2.54 Å), weakly bound to two coordinated bromines (Te···Br 2.92−2.96 Å) . A very similar situation (η 3 -TeBr 4 2- vs TeBr 2 + 2Br - ) is found in [Re 2 (μ-TeBr) 2 (μ-Te) 2 (TeBr 2 ) 2 Br 4 ] . A choice between η 4 -coordinated Te 2 I 6 2- and a set of two TeI 2 and two I - atoms is possible in [Nb 2 (Q 2 ) 2 (Te 2 I 6 ) 2 ] (Q = Se, Te) .…”

“…54 Black crystalline [Re 2 Br 4 (Te 2 )(TeBr) 2 (TeBr 2 ) 2 ] has been reported to form in the high temperature reaction of ReBr 4 with tellurium and TeBr 4 in SiBr 4 . 55 Finally, a 53 reference review of the chemistry of [M 2 (P^P)(m-S) 2 ] systems (M Pt or Pd, P^P is a diphosphine) is very welcome. 56 Among trinuclear systems, red Re 3 Se 7 Cl 7 forms from ReCl 4 , selenium and SeCl 4 at high temperatures and contains the [Re 3 (m 3 -Se)(m 2 -Se 2 ) 3 Cl 6 ] cation 57 (as an aside, a 106 reference review of rhenium sul¢de clusters is worthy of note).…”
