The first-and second-order Raman-active phonons in the orthorhombic Pbnm NdFeO 3 single crystals were studied by means of polarized Raman scattering and lattice dynamics computations (LDC). The zone-center phonons of A g symmetry were distinguished from the B 1g eigenmodes by performing polarized Raman scattering experiments using two parallel polarization configurations, X (ZZ)X and Z(X X )Z. With the help of LDC, we were able to assign most of the observed Raman-active modes, including phonons of B 2g and B 3g symmetry. The LDC results indicated that among the 16 force constants employed, the one corresponding to the stretching vibration between the central Fe cation and the axial oxygen atom in a FeO 6 octahedron unit had the largest value. This suggests that the B-site Fe cation is more tightly bound to the axial O1 ion than the other two equatorial O2 ions. It was further shown that at higher wavenumbers, the displacement of oxygen atoms contributed dominantly to the zone-center vibrations.

FeO 3 were prepared by the conventional ceramic method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The compounds were found to have the rhombohedral perovskite-like structure, accompanied by a small residual Bi 2 Fe 4 O 9 impurity phase. Magnetic hysteresis loops with enhanced remnant magnetization and coercive field were obtained for the Gd-containing compounds. The improvement of magnetic behavior of the Gd-containing compounds is thought to arise mainly from the partial suppression of the spiral spin structure and the stronger interaction between magnetic ions. The magnetic transition temperatures of the compounds were found to be in the range 300-310 °C.

The solid solutions (BiFeO3)1−x(BaTiO3)x (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5) have been synthesized adopting a solid state sintering route. Well crystalline phase of (BiFeO3)1−x(BaTiO3)x ceramics at dierent level of x has been optimized at sintering temperature of 950• C for 2 h. Dielectric, polarization and magnetocapacitance properties were investigated for dierent content level of BaTiO3. Dielectric constant increased with increasing concentration of BaTiO3 up to x = 0.3 for all the frequencies of 10, 100, and 1000 kHz. Dielectric loss in the material is attributed to space charges, interfacial and dipolar polarizations. Measurements of P E loop indicated evident ferroelectricity in all samples. Well formed grain with varying grain sizes and nearly uniform shape was found for ceramics samples.
