Synthesis and properties of novel copolymers of poly(ether ketone ether ketone ketone) and poly(ether ketone ketone ether ketone ketone) containing 1,4-naphthylene moieties

Abstract: A new monomer, 1,4-bis(4-phenoxybenzoyl)naphthalene (BPOBN), was conveniently synthesized via a simple synthetic procedure from readily available materials. A series of novel copolymers of poly(ether ketone ether ketone ketone) and poly(ether ketone ketone ether ketone ketone) containing 1,4naphthylene moieties were prepared by the Friedel-Crafts acylation solution copolycondensation of terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) with a mixture of BPOBN and 4,4 0 -diphenoxybenzophenone (DPOBPN), over a wide range of BPOBN/DP… Show more

“…The combination of rigid and flexible sections in the polymer chain is one of the main approaches leading to an increase in the glass transition temperature and thermal stability of the synthesized copolymers, however, SPAEK synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution method were studied to a large extent in this area [29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36]. Therefore, the authors of [12,37,52,53,57,58,63,64] synthesized SPAEK with 2,6-and 1,4-naphthalene fragments by low-temperature polycondensation by nucleophilic substitution:…”

“…Four peaks for PEEK were widely reported in the range of 18°-30°according to the literature. [53,54] Four peaks at 18.7°, 20.6°, 22.7°, and 28.4°are observed, as shown in Figure 7a. The diffraction peak, located at 20.6°, is sharper compared to pure PEEK fiber, suggesting that the orthorhombic crystal structure of PEEK becomes more ideal by hot-press sintering, similar to literature reports.…”
