Synthesis and structure of microporous layered tin(IV) sulfide materials

Abstract: Synthetic methods have been developed which yield large single crystals and highly crystalline phase-pure microporous layered SnS-n materials. This allows study of the structure-property-function relations of these materials. The tin sulfide layer of the SnS-1 structure type contains hexagonally shaped 24-atom rings which are constituted by six Sn 3 S 4 broken-cube cluster building units, linked together by double bridge Sn(m-S) 2 Sn sulfur bonds. The SnS-3 structure type contains elliptically shaped 32-atom r… Show more

“…The structure of 2 consists of undulated anionic layers and amine molecules between the layers. The layers may be viewed as a heteroatom 6 3 graphene layer constructed by condensed CuS 3 triangles and SnS 4 tetrahedra. The two thiostannates coexist which was investigated with in-situ energy dispersive X-ray scattering under real solvothermal conditions.…”

“…For instance, 2D-layered anions with compositions [Sn 3 S 7 ] 2− (denoted as SnS-1) and [Sn 4 S 9 ] 2− (denoted as SnS-2) were obtained in the presence of tetraalkylammonium hydroxides. The charge-balancing cations for SnS-1 are tetramethylammonium [4], tetraethylammonium [5], and protonated 1,8-diazabicyclooctane [5], while the cations for SnS-1 are tetrapropylammonium [5] and tetrabutylammonium [5].
