Synthesis and thermal properties of bismaleate and bisfumarate telechelic oligomers from hydroxytelechelic polybutadienes

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The preparation of original telechelic bismaleate and bisfumarate polybutadienes and their thermal properties are presented. These functional oligomers were synthesized by the esterification of a hemiester of maleic anhydride and methanol or an ethyl hemiester fumarate with hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene (HTPBd) in 94 and 63% yields, respectively. The thermal and thermomechanical properties of the materials obtained from the radical copolymerization of these telechelic bismaleate and bisfumarate poly… Show more

“…Two methods were used to initiate the grafting: the adding of an initiator in the polymer–monomer system or ozonization of the polymer. We ozonized the polymer to increase the grafting yield of copolymers because it has been shown that the treatment of polymer with the ozone followed copolymerization with a vinylic or acrylic monomer is an interesting way to prepare grafted copolymers 19–26…”

“…The reaction was also quantitative and the product was characterized by 1 H NMR spectrometry. [51] Synthesis of the a,v-Bismaleate Oligomers A 250 mL one-necked round-bottom flask equipped with a magnetic stirrer, an inverse Dean-Stark apparatus and a condenser was charged with 1 mol of glycolysate, 2.2 mol of maleate hemiester, 0.5 mol-% of methane sulfonic acid in respect to the hemiester compound, and 50 mL of CHCl 3 . The weights of the reagents used are indicated in Table 2.…”

“…These R,ω-difunctional compounds are powerful intermediates for polycondensation or polyaddition reactions. 14,16,25,26 Except for commercially available perfluoropolyethers (Krytox, 27 Fomblin Z-deal and Z-Dol, 28 Demnum, 29 or Aflunox 30 produced by DuPont, Ausimont, Daikin, or Nippon Mektron companies, respectively), few telechelic elastomers have been obtained: they can be achieved from the polymerization of functional vinyl ether, 31 from fluorinated R,ω-diiodides. 26 Nevertheless, an elegant way deals with the radical copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) with hexafluoropropene (HFP) initiated from functional initiator as pioneered by Rice and Sandberg.…”

“…Interestingly, fluorinated elastomers (Table ) have shown enhanced properties and can solve both first drawbacks, but curability still remains a disadvantage, although cross-linkings from polyamines, , polyphenols, ,, peroxides, ,, or electron beam , are possible.…”
