Synthesis and Thermoelectric Characterization of Lead Telluride Hollow Nanofibers

Abstract: Lead telluride (PbTe) nanofibers were fabricated by galvanic displacement of electrospun cobalt nanofibers where their composition and morphology were altered by adjusting the electrolyte composition and diameter of sacrificial cobalt nanofibers. By employing Co instead of Ni as the sacrificial material, residue-free PbTe nanofibers were synthesized. The Pb content of the PbTe nanofibers was slightly affected by the Pb2+ concentration in the electrolyte, while the average outer diameter increased with Pb2+ con… Show more

“…By adjusting its composition, PbTe can be either an n-(Pb rich PbTe) or a p-type (Te rich PbTe) semiconductor. [263] Zhang et al [264] proposed the fabrication of PbTe thermoelectric hollow nanofibers by means of a galvanic displacement process carried out onto sacrificial cobalt nanofibers. First, the cobalt nanofibers were obtained from ESP a solution containing cobalt, citric acid, and PVP followed by calcination.…”

“…The content of Ag ion led to the enhancement of TE properties in the Ag x Te y -PbTe 1D nanocomposite mats, which showed the highest value of S of 433 μV K −1 at 300 K when the remained Ag content was 30%. Zhang et al also fabricated PbTe hollow nanofiber mats through combining electrospinning, followed by galvanic displacement reactions using electrospun cobalt nanofibers as the sacrificial material [164]. Through tuning the diameter of the sacrificial cobalt nanofibers as well as the electrolyte concentrations in the galvanic displacement reactions, PbTe hollow nanofibers with various dimensions, surface morphologies 1 3 and compositions were synthesized, demonstrating that both the quantum confinement and surface scattering effects displayed an additional degree of control over the TE properties within such polycrystalline tubular nanostructures.…”

“…41 Meanwhile, inorganic fibres, such as NaCo 2 O 4 , 42 Mg 2 Si, 43 and PbTe (Fig. 4b), 44 were successfully fabricated with some flexibility. In thermoelectric fibres, grain boundaries and interfaces can also scatter phonons, thereby lowering the thermal conductivity and optimizing the transport properties of the fibres.…”
