Synthesis and Toluene Adsorption/Desorption Property of Beta Zeolite Coated on Cordierite Honeycomb by an In Situ Crystallization Method

Abstract: The beta zeolite on cordierite ceramic monolith was synthesized by an in situ crystallization method and characterized by XRD, N 2 adsorption/desorption, SEM and NH 3 -TPD techniques. Toluene adsorption/desorption was used as probe test for the control of cold-start emissions and treatment of volatile organic compounds. The presence of beta on the supports was confirmed by XRD, SEM, and N 2 adsorption/desorption measurements. The zeolite crystals grow both into the cordierite macropores and on the surface of t… Show more

“…Gaussian peak fitting has recently been used to quantify the acidity of zeolites, such as ZSM-5, HY, Beta, and Mordenite. [27][28][29][30][31] Here, we employ the same strategy to quantify the acid sites. In some cases, this method was applied to deconvolute the experimental curve even in six fixed temperature ranges to get a good fit and a better comparison between samples.…”

“…These peaks have been deconvolved for semi-quantitative analyses. Gaussian peak fitting has recently been used to quantify the acidity of zeolites, such as ZSM-5, HY, beta and mordenite [28][29][30][31][32]. Here, we employ the same strategy to quantify the acid sites.…”

“…[14] One of the approaches to prepare monolith adsorbents is to use the parallel-channel monolith only as a mechanical support for a film of the active adsorbent. [16,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] The use of the in situ synthesis to coat cordierite monoliths with BETA, [16,25] and other zeolites or zeotypes, has been widely reported. In this sense, ceramic honey-comb monoliths are the standard material supports used for gas-phase applications.…”

“…[14,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24] The second involves the use of hydrothermal synthesis methods such as (i) a direct hydrothermal synthesis (also called in situ growth), or (ii) a secondary growth method, in which the hydrothermal synthesis occurs after seeding the surface of the substrate. [16,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31] The use of the in situ synthesis to coat cordierite monoliths with BETA, [16,25] and other zeolites or zeotypes, has been widely reported. [26][27][28][29] In our previous study, cordierite honeycomb monoliths were successfully coated with BETA zeolite by using an in situ synthesis, avoiding the use of a binder.…”

“…Zeolite Beta is also a promising material for the adsorption of toluene and propene [21,22] . Using toluene as a probe test our aim is to detect volatile organic compounds by the change of the diffraction efficiency of holographic sensors.…”
