: This review focuses on some interesting and recent applications of transition metals towards the complexation of thiosemicarbazides, thiocarbohydrazides, and their corresponding carbazones. We started the review with a description of the chosen five metals, including Cu[Cu(I), Cu(II], Co(II), Ni(II), Pd(II), and Ag(I) and their electronic configurations. The stability of the assigned complexes was also discussed. We shed light on different routes describing the synthesis of these ligands. We also reported on different examples of the synthesis of Cu(I), Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Ag(I), and Pd(II) of thiosemicarbazide and thiocarbohydrazide complexes (until 2022). This review also deals with a summary of the fruitful use of metal complexes of thiosemicarbazones and thiocarbazones ligands in the field of catalysis. Finally, this recent review focuses on the applications of these complexes related to their biological importance.

Comprehensive SummaryRegulating spin crossover (SCO) behavior, especially controlling the spin transition steps, is an important scientific issue, mainly because people aim to control spin bistability and multistability. Presently, SCO bistability can be regulated by changing the ligand‐modifying species, non‐coordinated anions, guest molecules, and metal‐ion dopant. However, the control of multistability is extremely challenging, especially in Fe(III) SCO compounds. Here, we report that [FeIII(H‐5‐Br‐thsa)(5‐Br‐thsa)]·H2O (5‐Br‐thsa = (5‐bromo‐2‐hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide), a compound we have reported before, exists in two polymorphic forms: polymorph 1 exhibits three‐step SCO, and polymorph 2 shows five‐step SCO, with multi‐step SCO behavior effectively regulated by polymorphism. According to single‐crystal and powder X‐ray diffractometry, polymorphs 1 and 2 crystallize in different space groups during their spin transitions, with two‐step symmetry breaking observed (Pbcn → Pnc2 → Pbcn for polymorph 1; P21/n → Pn → P21/n for polymorph 2). We realized that the behavior of these two polymorphs depends significantly on the structure, including (i) the average Fe–N bond distance, (ii) deformation of octahedral FeIII atoms, and (iii) distinct crystal packing, which account for the large differences observed in magnetic properties.This article is protected by copyright. The current work reports the synthesis of mixed ligand‐metal complexes of (2‐(2‐oxoacenaphthylen‐1 ylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide) (L1) and carbamothioyl‐2‐chloronicotinohydrazonic acid (L2) and imidazole (im), triphenylphosphine (PPh3) and pyridine (py) ligands with Cu (II), Zn (II), Fe (II) and Co (II) salts.The chacterization was done through FT‐IR, NMR, UV‐visible, and elemental analysis. The X‐ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of [Cu(L1)(im)2(SO4)] demonstrated the crystalline morphology. In the FT‐IR spectra of the ligands, the characteristic frequencies corresponding to ν(C=N) (imine) and ν(C=S) (thiocarbonyl) were observed around 1650 and 1130 cm−1 respectively, which shifted upon complexation. In the 1H NMR spectra, the peak due to the NH proton was observed downfield, whereas that of ‐NH2 was observed comparatively upfield owing to its secondary amine nature. The molecular docking was performed against transforming growth beta (tgf‐β), protease of SARS‐CoV‐2 (Mpro) and aspartate kinase (Asp) kinase.The molecular simulation with the docked complex of [Zn(L2)(py)2(SO4)] and [Zn(L1)(PPh3)2(SO4)] with Asp kinase showed significant stability during the simulation time of 100 ns. The relative free energies of the simulated complexes were calculated with the molecular mechanics Poison‐Boltmann surface area (MM‐PBSA). The complexes were tested against ten bacterial strains and showed enhanced antibacterial activity than the ligands. [Cu(L1)(im)2(SO4)], [Zn(L1)(im)2(SO4)], [Fe(L1)(im)2(SO4)] and [Co(L1)(im)2(Cl2)] were found to be active against E.coli.
