Synthesis, Characterization and Surface Activity of New Eco‐friendly Schiff Bases Vanillin Derived Cationic Surfactants

Abstract: Three eco-friendly cationic surface active agents were synthesized from the chemical modification of vanillin. The chemical structures of these surfactants were confirmed using elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectra. The surface activity measurements showed their high tendency towards adsorption and micellization and their good surface tension reduction, low interfacial tension. The emulsion stability measurements showed acceptable efficiency as emulsifying agents for short term emulsions. The biodegradability… Show more

“…Among them, nonionic surfactants have found a wide variety of applications in foods, agriculture, manufacturing industries, paints, and drug delivery [2]. Currently, nonionic surfactants have attracted particular scientific attention owing to their high safety profile, enhanced biocompatibility, and low cost of production [3,4]. Owing to their low CMC, they are excellent solubilizers for various substances [5].…”

“…The ability of 400S, 400V, 600S and 600V towards biodegradation in river water was determined by surface tension method (Du-Noüy tensiometer, Krüss type K6) using a platinum ring [42,43] at an inhibitor concentration of 1 % by weight. Inhibitors were dissolved in river water with a concentration of 100 ppm and were incubated at 38°C.…”
