Synthesis of 3D Hexagram-Like Cobalt–Manganese Sulfides Nanosheets Grown on Nickel Foam: A Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Overall Water Splitting

Abstract: The exploration of low-cost and efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction through tuning the chemical composition is strongly required for sustainable resources. Herein, we developed a bimetallic cobalt–manganese sulfide supported on Ni foam (CMS/Ni) via a solvothermal method. It has discovered that after combining with the pure Co9S8 and MnS, the morphologies of CMS/Ni have modulated. The obtained three-dimensionally hexagram-like CMS/Ni nanosheets h… Show more

“…Production of hydrogen/oxygen fuels through electrochemical water splitting is considered one of the most efficient green technologies, although large-scale synthesis of costeffective electrocatalysts used in this process still remains a huge challenge [1][2][3][4][5]. Platinum (Pt)/Pt-based alloys and iridium/ruthenium oxides (IrO 2 /RuO 2 ) are regarded as the most efficient electrocatalysts for electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), respectively [6][7][8][9][10]. However, their high cost and compromised stability as well as the low earth abundance of these metals impede their widespread application [11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…Among various alternative materials, transition metal phosphides (TMPs) have gained considerable attention, owing to the suitable d-electron configuration and rich chemical states [12][13][14]. In particular, NiCoP with the enhanced electrical conductivity and the synergistic effect from Ni and Co shows good catalytic performances for overall water splitting [15,16].…”

“…The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are the key reversible reactions occurring at the cathode of ZABs and largely determine the energy-conversion efficiency of ZABs [4]. The OER and the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are the two electrochemical reactions for catalyzing overall water splitting [5][6][7]. Pt-based materials have been widely considered as state-of-the-art electrocatalysts for the ORR and HER [8][9][10][11][12], while RuO 2 and IrO 2 are the standard high-efficiency OER catalysts [13,14].…”
