Synthesis of a novel oil‐absorption resin and optimization of its performance parameters using response surface design

Abstract: A novel porous oil absorbing resin with the main monomers of stearyl methacrylate and isooctyl methacrylate was synthesized using suspension polymerization. The synthesis experiments were conducted using the response surface design method. And the influences of initiator concentration, cross‐linker concentration, and dispersant concentration were investigated. Through analyzing the second‐order polynomial mathematical models and the corresponding data, the mutual effects between these factors on the oil‐absorp… Show more

“…Figure 2A shows the FTIR spectra of SiO 2 before and after hydrophobic modification. The absorption peak of curve (b) in Figure 2A at 1633 cm À1 was attributed to the bending vibration of C C. 24 Curve (b) in Figure 2A exhibited three peaks at 2960, 2842 and 1409 cm À1 , corresponding to the Si CH 3 symmetric stretching vibration, Si-CH 3 asymmetric stretching vibration and Si CH 3 bending vibration, respectively. 25 The hydroxyl groups on the surface of SiO 2 were replaced by VTMS hydrolysates.…”

“…Few studies explored oil sorption by using statistical models, particularly the response surface design model 53–55 and regression model 56 . In recent studies IF‐THEN rules in fuzzy models have been applied extensively to analyze adsorption 57 and removal efficiency 58,59 in nanocomposite studies.…”
