Synthesis of Composites SBA-15 Mesoporous Particles Carrying Oxytocin and Evaluation of Their Properties, Functions, and In Vitro Biological Activities

Abstract: Using the organic template method, we have synthesized mesoporous SBA-15 particles and characterized them by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The bone metabolism regulating hormone oxytocin (OT) was selected as a model for preparation of drug/SBA-15 complexes. “…Quantitative data on hindered diffusion in SBA-15 and KIT-6 silicas would be very welcome, as most applications rely on effective and/or selective transport of finite-size species. Hindered diffusion concerns the immobilization of enzymes, polyhedra, and clusters , on the internal surface of these ordered mesoporous materials, as well as the transport of bulky educts and products to and from the active surface sites , or the controlled release of drugs from the pore space. Partial exclusion of finite-size species reduces the active surface area of a support, and when interfacial kinetics are fast, diffusive transport may become rate-limiting to the process performance.
