Synthesis of High-Molecular-Weight Multifunctional Glycerol Polyhydroxyurethanes PHUs

Abstract: Abstract:Glycerol carbonate acrylate is a 5-membered cyclic carbonate synthesized from glycerol that is used as a chemical coupling agent and has proven highly suitable for use in the synthesis of multifunctional polyhydroxyurethanes (PHUs). The multifunctionality of the structure of PHUs is determined by the density of the carbon-amine groups generated by the Aza-Michael reaction and that of the urethane groups and adjacent primary and secondary hydroxyl groups generated by aminolysis. Glycerol carbonate acry… Show more

“…Although CUR is a neutral molecule, protons can be removed with alkalinization. pKa 1, 2 and 3 in curcumin are 7.8, 8.5 and 9.0, [ 33 ] and exhibit an overall hydrophobic nature and the presence of hydrophilic hydroxyl groups originated as a result of keto‐enol tautomerism promotes the intercalation of CUR in the interlayer space of Mg‐LDH‐CUR, while Zn‐LDH‐CUR retains CUR by adsorption among the aggregate of LDH particles. In both cases, retention is promoted by the attraction of the negative charges in CUR and the positive charge in the LDH particles.…”

“…14 Nohra et al used aza-Michael addition to obtain high molecular weight PHU from glycerol carbonate acrylate and linear and branched amines. 15 The glycerol amino ethylene ester obtained were gels, foams, and resins. In general, for obtain thermosets, acrylates are incorporated as Michael acceptors, using acrylic acid derivatives.…”

“…In general, for obtain thermosets, acrylates are incorporated as Michael acceptors, using acrylic acid derivatives. 15 Maleate groups are more reactive than acrylates due to the presence of two ester groups, which act as withdrawing groups (Michael acceptors). 14,16 In this article, maleate groups were introduced through hydroxyl groups of castor oil using mild conditions.…”

“…The unclear peak observed around 1530 cm -1 belongs to the carbon-carbon bond from graphene (Peng et al, 2013). The other two spectrums are the characteristic peaks of ethylene glycol (Nohra et al, 2016) and polyurethane (Caddeo et al, 2015) raw materials. These include the OH bond at approximately 3300 cm -1 and the CH bonds at 2870 and 2942 cm -1 .…”
