Synthesis of Indium Nanowires by Galvanic Displacement and Their Optical Properties

Abstract: Single crystalline indium nanowires were prepared on Zn substrate which had been treated in concentrated sulphuric acid by galvanic displacement in the 0.002 mol L−1In2(SO4)3-0.002 mol L−1SeO2-0.02 mol L−1SDS-0.01 mol L−1citric acid aqueous solution. The typical diameter of indium nanowires is 30 nm and most of the nanowires are over 30 μm in length. XRD, HRTEM, SAED and structural simulation clearly demonstrate that indium nanowires are single-crystalline with the tetragonal structure, the growth direction of… Show more

“…The In 0 nanoparticles exhibit surface plasmon resonance (SPR) over a wide wavelength range from DUV (200 nm) to visible (559 nm) regions. 24,43 Fig. 3(a) and (b) presents the absorption spectra of the In 0 nanowires and nanotriangles dispersed in ethanol, respectively.…”

“…The optical density spectrum displays typical absorption maximum near 345 nm for nanowires and 336 nm for nanotriangles, which matches well with the reported SPR band for the In nanostructures. 24,35 The identical surface coatings and solvent allows a direct comparison of the optical properties and plasmon resonance of the obtained anisotropic indium nanoparticles. The UV-visible spectra demonstrate an evident size and shape-dependent shi of the SPR wavelength of In 0 particles as known for Au and Ag nanoparticles.…”

“…In our experiments, we found that only a few and short nanowires can grow on the untreated Zn substrate. The SEM image showed that porous ZnO film formed on the surface of Zn substrate after being treated in concentrated sulfuric acid [ 35 ]. Thus, the Zn atoms in the holes were oxidized, and ZnO nanowires grew from the holes, which can be used as a “hard template”.…”

“…In particular, indium, copper and gallium chalcogenides are of interest as important elements in the formation of copper indium selenide and copper indium gallium selenide solar energy conversion materials. Nanoparticle deposition can be achieved using galvanic (1) and electrodeposition (2) techniques. In electrochemical deposition, metal is initially grown at nuclei on the substrate surface, and the selected growth of the nuclei can enable the targeted deposition of nanoparticles in desired locations.…”
