Synthesis of indolo[3,2-b]carbazole-based new colorimetric receptor for anions: A unique color change for fluoride ions

Abstract: SummaryA novel indolocarbazole-based chemosensor 1 containing hydrogen bond donor moieties has been established as a selective colorimetric and fluorometric sensor for F− in CH3CN/H2O (4:1 v/v). Upon the addition of a series of tetrabutylammonium salts to receptor 1 in aqueous CH3CN, only when the counter ion was F− was a significant color change (from light violet to dark orange) observed.

“…A series of conjugated copolymer containing carbazole group was applied for organic solar cell [9], enhancement of bright pure blue-violet light with high quantum yield [10], recording media [11] and other interesting applications. And this polymer containning carbazole group is applied detecting material for chemical substance, because the nitrogen atom of the carbazole molecule has lone pair-electron [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. In fact, carbazole and its derivatives have attracted much attention with it interesting characteristics for fabrication of fluorescent sensor [14][15][16][17]19,21].…”

In fact, carbazole and its derivatives have attracted much attention with it interesting characteristics for fabrication of fluorescent sensor [14][15][16][17]19,21]. Moreover, the polymers containing higher carbazole content also have high thermal stability [22][23][24][25].…”

“…The development of novel chromophores with appropriate reactive regions for selective, sensitive detection remains an important goal for ion sensors. During our ongoing research on both cation [31,32] and anion [33,34] recognition, herein, we report the synthesis and application of a probe based on benzthiazole, 2-benzthiazol-2-ylmethylisoindole-1,3-dithione (3), for the selective, sensitive detection of Hg 2+ ions in In the present case, our strategy for designing a chemical sensor for mercury was glycine amino acid to N-phthaloylglycine scaffold having an appended benzthiazole. As amino acids are water-soluble and biologically and environmentally compatible, new chemical sensors based on amino acids are a promising route of development.…”

“…From this logic several synthetic receptors have been designed including urea [21][22][23][24][25], thiourea [26][27][28][29][30][31], amides [32], thiazole [33], imidazolium [34], phenylhydrazone [35], indole [36][37][38], pyrrole [39,40], and phenol [41], units for interaction study with negatively charge ionic species (also can be referred as guest). The phenylhydrazone type of receptors [42][43][44][45][46], is neutral and the chemistry involved to synthesize these kinds of molecules is also simpler.…”
