Synthesis of New Tin(iv) Compounds of Substituted Diphenylsulfide Derivatives and Their Complexes With Some Neutral Ligands

Abstract: Some new tin(IV) compounds of the general formula Sn(SC 6 H 4 R) 4 , where R ¼ o-NH 2 , p-Me, p-Bu-t have been obtained from the direct reaction of (RC 6 H 5 S) 2 and tin metal in the molar ratio 2:1 in refluxing toluene. Similarly, a mixture of tin (RC 6 H 5 S) 2 and iodine in 1.0:1.5:0.5 or 1.0:1.0:1.0 molar ratios in refluxing toluene leads to the formation of Sn(SC 6 H 4 R) 3 I or Sn(SC 6 H 4 R) 2 I 2 , respectively. Complexes of the new tin compounds with triphenylphosphine, 4-picoline, 1,10-phenanthrolin… Show more

“…The Raman spectra obtained after dissolution of Sn, SnS, and SnO in EDT–en are nearly identical to one another in peak position, with each possessing major bands at ∼197, 264, and 322 (±3) cm –1 . It should be further noted that there are no significant bands in these spectra associated with the v (Sn–N) symmetric stretch at ∼178 cm –1 , which is readily observed with coordination of amines to 1 (see Supporting Information, Figure S6). , On this basis, it is unlikely that en in the solvent mixture is coordinating to tin, leaving the molecular solute solely ligated by two dithiolate ligands (vide supra).…”

“…The appearance of new bands in the infrared spectra of the synthesized complexes 3-6 in the region 353-370 cm −1 , which is assigned to ν(M−S), supports the bonding of sulfur atom to the metal ion (25). In particular, the ν(C−N), ν(C−S) and ν(C=S) bands are known to depend on the nature of coordination of dithiocarbamate to metal ions (26). The dithiocarbamate ligand in [M(S 2 NC 5 H 8 ) 2 ] complexes act as bidentate ligand through the sulfur atoms.…”

“…PTD was prepared by refluxing of pyrrolidine and carbon disulfide in the presence of excess NaOH, followed by the addition of I 2 in methanol to the mixture (26). The molar ratio of pyrrolidine to carbon disulfide is 1:1, and the molar ratio of I 2 to the carbon disulfide is 1.2:1.…”

“…The synthesis of dihalobis (2-pyridinethiolato) tin(IV) by an oxidative addition reaction of di-2-pyridyldisulfide to tin (II) halides represents an example of preparing other similar dihalodithiolato tin(IV) compounds (9) . In our previous studies (10,11) (12) .…”
