Synthesis of Nickel Hydroxide Nanoribbons with a New Phase:  A Solution Chemistry Approach

Abstract: We report here the successful synthesis of one-dimensional (1D) nanoribbons of nickel hydroxide crystallized in a new phase. This attempt is based on the treatment of freshly precipitated nickel hydroxide with high concentrations of nickel sulfate. The nanoribbons with monoclinic structure had a chemical composition of Ni(OH)1.66(SO4)0.17(H2O)0.29, which was close to that of α-Ni(OH)2. These nanoribbons were very pure single crystals, structurally uniform with typical widths of 5−25 nm, thicknesses of 1−5 nm, … Show more

“…[29] Lius group prepared Ni(OH) 2 nanoribbons by hydrothermal treatment of amorphous a-Ni(OH) 2 powder in the presence of high concentrations of nickel sulfate. [26,27] Using an ethanol/water/ ammonia liquor system, Tang et al fabricated Ni(OH) 2 nanobelts, subsequent annealing of which furnished porous NiO nanobelts. [28] However, in spite of the successes menAbstract: a-Ni(OH) 2 nanobelts, nanowires, short nanowires, and b-Ni(OH) 2 nanoplates have been successfully prepared in high yields and purities by a convenient hydrothermal method under mild conditions from very simple systems composed only of NaOH, NiSO 4 , and water.…”

“…Nevertheless, only few reports successfully control the uniform morphology, e.g. 1-D fiber-like a-Ni(OH) 2 [27,28] and ordered mesoporous a-Ni(OH) 2 [29].…”

“…The b-Ni(OH) 2 nanostructures of various morphologies have been fabricated, such as nanotubes and nanorods by template synthesis [9,10], nanoribbons and nanosheets by hydrothermal treating [11][12][13], and flower-like nanoarchitectures by one-step hydrothermal process with the aid of ethylenediamine [14].…”
