Synthesis of Nickel Nanoparticles Supported on Boehmite for Selective Hydrogenation of p-Nitrophenol and p-Chloronitrobenzene

Abstract: Nickel nanoparticles supported on boehmite were prepared by a modified electroless nickel-plating method and a direct reduction method. We mainly studied the catalyst synthesized by the direct reduction method. The as-prepared nickel catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The catalytic behavior in selective hydrogenation of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol and p-chloronitrobenzene to p-chloroaniline was studied and compared with Ni-B/c-Al 2 O 3 catal… Show more

“…5. As it can be seen from 5 1) from the XRD patterns, which all the peaks can be confirmed the crystallization of boehmite with an orthorhombic unit cell [7,13]. The results of XRD patterns of boehmite-silica and boehmite-SSA reveal that the surface modification of the boehmite nanoparticles does not lead to their phase change.…”

“…Several approaches for the reduction of nitrophenols to aminophenols have been reported so far, such as iron-acid reduction [1,2,15], electrolytic reduction [16], catalytic hydrogenation [17][18][19][20][21], etc.…”

“…Unfortunately, many currently existing catalysts do not meet the high activity and selectivity requirements simultaneously. 539,540 On the one hand, the classical systems such as Pd/C are highly active but they do not provide the sufficient process selectivity because of undesirable by-products formation, and an additional step for the target product purification is required. On the other hand, catalysts that show high selectivity require conducting the reactions at high temperature and high hydrogen pressure due to their low activity.…”
