SnS2 has been investigated as anode material for lithium ion batteries. To obtain anode material having high capacity and long‐term lifespan, in the present work, a nanostructured composite comprising SnS2 nanosheets and CMK‐3 ordered mesoporous carbon has been designed. The CMK‐3/SnS2 composite is fabricated via incipient wetness impregnation, followed by chemical reduction and chemical conversion in an inert gas at high temperature. The obtained composite exhibits boosted lithium storage behaviors involving high specific capacity, fast rate response and stable cyclability. At a discharge‐charge rate of 100 mA g‐1, the CMK‐3/SnS2 electrode delivers a specific capacity of 985.2 mA h g‐1 with the utilization efficiency of SnS2 present in the composite of 90.5 %. Even, after 500 cycles testing at higher discharge‐charge rates of 0.5 and 1 A g‐1, CMK‐3/SnS2 still can maintain specific capacities of 556.2 and 402.9 mA h g‐1, respectively, much higher than the theoretical specific capacity of commercialized graphite anode material. This work demonstrates considerable application potential of the CMK‐3/SnS2 anode in Li‐ion batteries.

Among various energy storage and conversion materials, functionalized natural clays display significant potentials as electrodes, electrolytes, separators, and nanofillers in energy storage and conversion devices. Natural clays have porous structures, tunable specific surface areas, remarkable thermal and mechanical stabilities, abundant reserves, and cost‐effectiveness. In addition, natural clays deliver the advantages of high ionic conductivity and hydrophilicity, which are beneficial properties for solid‐state electrolytes. This review article provides an overview toward the recent advancements in natural clay‐based energy materials. First, it comprehensively summarizes the structure, classification, and chemical modification methods of natural clays to make them suitable in energy storage and conversion devices. Then, the particular attention is focused on the application of clays in the fields of lithium‐ion batteries, lithium–sulfur batteries, zinc‐ion batteries, chloride‐ion batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells, and fuel cells. Finally, the possible future research directions are provided for natural clays as energy materials. This review aims at facilitating the rapid developments of natural clay‐based energy materials through a fruitful discussion from inorganic and materials chemistry aspects, and also promotes the broad sphere of clay‐based materials for other utilization, such as effluent treatment, heavy metal removal, and environmental remediation.

Comparative Study on Architecture‐Dependent Electrochemical Properties of Aluminum Anode Materials for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

This study presents a comparative study on architecture‐dependent electrochemical properties of anodes made from aluminum particles and aluminum foil for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) application. The purity and other physicochemical features were analyzed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. The electrochemical characteristics were determined by cycling voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD) tests. The obtained results demonstrated that, due to the architecture nature of aluminum foil, the aluminum foil electrode had better conductivity and higher nucleation overpotential compared to the aluminum particles electrode, which involved other components such as PVDF as binder and carbon super P as conductive agent. Thus, the CV curves of the aluminum foil electrode showed sharper redox peaks with higher peak intensity. In addition, the aluminum foil electrode provided significantly higher initial capacity than that of the aluminum particles electrode. However, the architecture of the foil anode rendered it extremely prone to volume expansion during cycling, resulting in a fast and complete capacity fading just after 13 cycles. The anode made from aluminum particles, in contrast, witnessed slower capacity decay and ultimately stabilized at approximately 50 mAh g−1 for extending cycles.
